Wife seeks donations as injured cyclist’s medical bills mount
Marble – A Go Fund Me account has been set up for a Georgia man who was hospitalized after he was thrown from his motorcycle when a vehicle pulled in front of him on Feb. 26.
According to local eyewitness Billy Scrantom, it appears that the driver of an SUV pulling out of Farmhouse Diner off N.C. 141 didn’t see the oncoming motorcycle, which was driven by Ronald McClenny, 55, of Lawrenceville, Ga. The northbound motorcycle crashed into the SUV as it was crossing the road to head south on N.C. 141.
Scrantom said the motorcyclist was thrown 60 feet and unconscious from the collision. He and a nurse tended to the wounded motorcyclist until emergency responders arrived.
Fama McClenny, Ronald McClenny’s wife, set up a Go Fund Me account to raise money for her husband’s medical care.
“My husband left our house to go enjoy a ride on a nice sunny day and was hit by a car pulling out of a business making a left-hand turn,” she posted.
“N.C. State Patrol said there was nothing he could do to avoid this collision. He was life-flighted to the University of Tennessee, where he was admitted as a hotel, hotel because he was unconscious.”
Ms. McClenny said he was admitted with two small brain bleeds, a crushed foot, a punctured lung, a right upper arm break which the bone came through and punctured his chest wall, a right leg compound fracture that came through the skin, and multiple lacerations.
He went to surgery but they were unable to do anything for the crushed foot at the time due to swelling, so they put pins in to keep the foot stable, she said. His upper arm had a metal rod placed in it, and bone fragments removed.
His right leg was stabilized with a metal rod, but there wasn’t enough skin or muscle to close the wound at that time, Ms. McClenny said. Just before surgery, his lung collapsed and surgeons put a chest tube in.
“He has many more surgeries over the next couple of days,” she said shortly after his first surgery. “In one second our lives were changed forever! My husband is a warehouse selector, which is a physical job, which he enjoyed.
“The doctors told me yesterday it will be months before he can actually walk when we get to that point. Once he is stable, we want
to get him transported to our hospital at home so we can begin our healing process.”
Her Go Fund Me account seeks to raise $12,000 and had raised $1,475 by Thursday.
“We are from Georgia and hours away from our normal life we once had. Anything you can do to help us would be greatly appreciated,” she said.
