Murphy – Friends of the Murphy Public Library held their fundraising Trash to Treasure yard sale Friday and Saturday, and many came out to snag some cool stuff at incredible deals.
Donated items built the inventory. All the money that was brought in will go toward the purchase of books.
Items sold quickly, as a few folks even showed up before the 9 a.m. start time and waited for the door to open. People were purchasing items like punch bowls and cups, small appliances, craft items, model airplanes, pet items, racks, furniture and a large wood frame.
No brawls broke out in the search for treasure. At one point, two people did want the same brass oil lamp, but it ended peacefully.
Friends of the Murphy Public Library raises funds through yard sales, raffles of donated items from crafters, book sales, silent auctions and craft sales. Future plans include a chili lunch and bake sale.
Everyone benefits, as the funds go toward CDs, DVDs, books, magazines, items needed to furnish the children’s area and other things for the library.
If anyone would like to become a Friend, stop by the library at 9 Blumenthal St. and fill out a brief application.
“The turnout has been so great. We have some empty tables now,” said Julie Chautin, president of Friends of the Library. “We’re a nonprofit, and all the money we bring in really helps the library.”
