October is filled with groaning, screeching and scary things, and it’s not too late to plan some spooky family fun for your own brood.
Mark your calendars and come on out for some Halloween treats and traditions across Cherokee County.
Thursday
- From 6-9 p.m., Chevelles Restaurant & Bar, 66 Hiwassee St. in Murphy, is having a Paws & Pints Halloween dog costume contest with treats, prizes, great beer and give-a-ways.
- From 6:30-9 p.m. daily until Oct. 31, there is a Haunted House open at 1046 N.C. 141 in Peachtree. Adults are $7, with ages 10 and under $5.
Friday
- From 5-7:30 p.m., Martins Creek Elementary/Middle School, 1459 Tobe Stalcup Road, is having a Funky Fall Friday. Come out for candy, hot dogs, vendors and hay rides.
- From 6-8 p.m., FernCrest Winery, 1060 Main St. in Andrews, is hosting a Paint & Sip Party with instructor Kaylee Carter. All materials, plus a glass of wine or unlimited tea or water, will cost $50. Call 828-321-1600 to reserve a spot.
- From 9 p.m. to midnight, Chevelles Restaurant & Bar, 66 Hiwassee St. in downtown Murphy, is having a Halloween costume contest and party.
Saturday
- From 3-5 p.m., the Andrews Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Trunk or Treat downtown. Come on out and get your fair share of all the goodies, or give them away.
- From 4-7 p.m., Shepherd of the Mountains Church, 68 Fairfax Drive in Murphy, is offering a Trunk or Treat event for the whole family.
- At 5 p.m. J&J Getaway, 87 Horton Road in Beaver Dam, is having Halloween festivities for the family. Come out for a pumpkin-carving contest, music by Woolybooger & The Loon, the Honey Bug BBQ food truck and trick-or-treat fun.
- From 5-7 p.m., Culberson Baptist Church, 225 Culberson Church Road, is hosting a Trunk or Treat.
- From 5-8 p.m., Buck Bald Brewing, 104 Tennessee St. in Murphy, is hosting a pre-Halloween party featuring the Natti Love Joys reggae band.
- At 6 p.m., the Cannon Club, 7750 U.S. 64 W. in Ranger, is hosting a Halloween party with food, prizes and fun. This is a private membership club.
- At 7 p.m., Konehete Veterans Park in Murphy will be hosting an outdoor Halloween Movie Party with a free showing the spooky comedy Hotel Transylvania. Bring your chairs, blankets and pillows to enjoy the show, and there will also be goodies for sale. If it rains, the event will move into the nearby Rock Gym.
- From 7-10 p.m., The Mason Bar, 46 Valley River Ave. in downtown Murphy, is having a costume party with a cash prize.
Sunday
- From 3-5 p.m., Blue will be singing at FernCrest Winery, 1060 Main St. in Andrews.
Tuesday
- From 5-7 p.m., Calvary Chapel, 866 Joe Brown Highway in Murphy, will host its second annual Calvary Cars Trunk or Treat.
- From 5-7 p.m., First Baptist Church in Murphy is having a Trunk or Treat.
- From 4-8:30 p.m., the Peachtree Volunteer Fire Department, 155 Upper Peachtree Road, invites trick-or-treaters to visit them for Halloween fun. Food and drinks will be provided.
- All afternoon, the streets of downtown Murphy will come alive with the Halloween spirit, as local businesses are preparing to hand out tasty treats.
- After dark, Halloween on Duke Street in Murphy is always a popular place. The area will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic, ensuring a safe haven for trick-or-treaters. The Murphy Police Department will be on hand with additional lighting to guide traffic and make sure all costumed children can cross the road safely.
Murphy Mayor Tim Radford encourages everyone to have “an incredibly fun and safe holiday,” and remember to stay safe by wearing reflective clothing and sticking to well-lit paths. When crossing streets, always look both ways and follow the guidance of local law enforcement officials.
