Ezekiel Seth Curtis, 46, of 569 Burger Road, was arrested on felony first-degree burglary, felony first-degree kidnapping, felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor charges of pointing a gun, domestic violence and possession of marijuana. He was being held without bond at the Cherokee County Detention Center in Murphy.
Cherokee County Communications received a 911 call just before 2 a.m. Saturday about a possible armed kidnapping in the area of Holiness Church Road, according to sheriff’s patrol Capt. David Williams. The suspect allegedly forced the victim from a residence at gunpoint, Williams said.
With help from the Murphy Police Department, deputies located a vehicle fitting the description given in the 911 call in the vicinity of the Hot Spot convenience store at U.S. 64 West and Blairsville Highway in Ranger about 50 minutes earlier.
“The deputy conducted an investigatory stop on the vehicle and found Ezekiel Seth Curtis to be the operator, with a lone female passenger who showed obvious signs of distress,” according to the sheriff’s office.
“Deputies detained Curtis and began an investigation into the incident. Upon searching the vehicle, deputies recovered a loaded firearm, suspected methamphetamine and suspected marijuana. Multiple witness statements were obtained by responding deputies, and Curtis was placed under arrest. Deputies transported the female to a safe location.”
Curtis was being held without bond until a bond hearing is conducted by a district court judge. He is scheduled to appear in Cherokee County District Court on Wednesday,
Feb. 14.
