Wolf Creek – A call about a suspicious man has led to a murder charge.
Cherokee County Communications received a call about 10:18 p.m. Oct. 7 from a motorist in reference to a suspicious man on U.S. 64 West in western Cherokee County. The man was later identified as Richard Abrain, 74, of Dog Track Road in Mauk, Ga.

The person reporting the incident told E911 operators that he saw Abrain on the side of the road and stopped to check on him. Abrain was bleeding, and there was a pickup truck off of the roadway in a small field.
The person reporting the incident said Abrain told him there was a dead body in the pickup. He was able to confirm that to be true.
Upon arrival, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office found a deceased man in the driver’s seat of the pickup with obvious gunshot wounds.
Upon further investigation, Abrain was charged with one count of felony murder on Oct. 8.
Abrain is being held at the Cherokee County Detention Center in Murphy without bond. His first court appearance is expected Thursday.
