Andrews – A local man has been charged in the Jan. 31 gunshot slaying of his wife.
Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies arrested Randy Dean Freeman on Feb. 19 and booked him on charges of second-degree murder and two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon.

Deputies responded to a 911 call on Jan. 31 about a person suffering from a gunshot wound in Andrews. Deputies and paramedics found Amy Freeman, a resident there, dead upon their arrival.
Following an investigation, deputies arrested Randy Dean Freeman, 43, Amy Freeman’s husband. Jail records show Freeman's address as 90 Dan Holland Road.
Authorities ask anyone with information about the incident to contact the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at 828-837-2589.
Sheriff Dustin Smith thanks the first responders, 911 Dispatch, detectives, members of the community and the District Attorney’s Office for their “due diligence and assistance in the pursuit of justice in this case.”
Randy Freeman is being held without bail at the Cherokee County Detention Center in Murphy.
Freeman has a criminal record that includes carrying a concealed weapon, DWI, larceny after breaking and entering and other breaking and entering charges dating back to 1998. The most recent charges, DWI and carrying a concealed weapon, occurred in November 2006.
