Murphy – A Georgia company noted for developing Dollar General stores has acquired acreage on the edge of downtown.
Teramore Development LLC, based in Thomasville, Ga., acquired a 2.24-acre parcel at 138 Ledford St. at the southwest corner of the intersection of Ledford Street and U.S. 19/74/129. The property was acquired in July for $364,000.
Teramore representatives did not respond to an email. The company’s website touts its development of Dollar General stores throughout the region, including stores in Newton, Statesville and Summerville.
The company has also developed sites for Publix, Dunkin Donuts, Vitamin Shoppe, Mavis Discount Tire and Sleep Number. However, the Murphy location will be a Dollar General, Murphy Mayor Tim Radford confirmed Monday.
A Dollar General includes discount shelf-stable, refrigerated and frozen groceries as well as general merchandise.
DG Markets are larger versions of Dollar Generals that include fresh meat and produce as well as larger selections of all merchandise. A 12,858-square-foot DG Market developed in Andrews on a level 1.43-acre lot off Main Street.
Although the parcel in Murphy is on a larger lot than the DG Market in Andrews, the Murphy lot is hilly and the site plan submitted to the Town of Murphy shows a 10,640-square-foot building.
Either way, a Dollar General would plug a grocery store gap that stretches between Save-a-Lot, Ingles Markets, Walmart Supercenter, United Grocery Outlet and a Dollar General northeast of downtown, a Dollar General in Peachtree southeast of Murphy and a Dollar General in Ranger southwest of Murphy.
The new development will include a sidewalk, curb and gutter, Town Manager Chad Simons said.
A timeline for construction of the site was not disclosed.
