Marble A Cherokee County inmate was captured about four hours after he escaped from a work crew at the sheriff’s shooting range in Marble on Thursday morning. His capture was reported at 1:53 p.m. by Cherokee County Emergency Services.

Robert Keith Revis Jr., 50, of Andrews, was being held at the jail in lieu of numerous charges including being a habitual felon and bond forfeiture. Earlier charges included possession of methamphetamine, shoplifting, driving without a license, misdemeanor larceny and other similar offenses dating as far back as 2009.
He was being held in the Cherokee County Detention Center in Murphy on four charges with total bail of $8,500.
Multiple law enforcement agencies – including the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Cherokee Tribal Police, N.C. Highway Patrol and N.C. Department of Adult Corrections – were on scene Thursday morning in an area ranging from the Cherokee County Landfill, Fairview Road, N.C. 141 and Airport Road.
About 1:45 p.m. Thursday, Revis was spotted on the railroad tracks in the Marble area. After a brief foot chase, Revis was taken into custody without incident. Revis was charged with felony escape local jail and escape by hired prisoner. He was being held without bail on the new charges. Revis has an initial court date of Thursday, May 15.

Description
Revis is a white man, about 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighing around 155 pounds. He was last seen at 9:28 a.m. near 9554 U.S. 19. At the time, he was wearing inmate clothing, but officials thought he may have changed clothes after his escape.
This is the second escape from the Cherokee County jail custody since October, when a federal prisoner being held for a string of bank robberies across the state scaled a fence but was captured a short time later.
That inmate – Kelvin Wayne Simmons, 48, of Concord – remains in custody at the Cherokee County Detention Facility, facing federal bank robbery charges plus new charges of felony escape and resisting a public officer. His bail for the escape attempt was set at $100,000, but he was being held without bail on the federal charges.
The latest escape
About 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Revis escaped from his work detail at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Firing Range.
Cherokee County E-911 Communications received the call and immediately dispatched deputies with the sheriff’s office to respond to the area, Deputies were aided by the N.C. State Highway Patrol and Andrews Police Department.
Upon arrival, multiple law enforcement officers, as well as two police dogs, canvassed the area looking for Revis. State troopers and Andrews police set up multiple checkpoints along Fairview Road.
The Murphy Police Department assisted in answering calls from concerned citizens who thought they had seen Revis in various areas in and around town. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies assisted as well.
“While not considered armed, a NIXLE Alert was issued to residents in the area, advising what had occurred,” according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
E-911 dispatchers received multiple calls reporting someone matching Revis’ description in various parts of Cherokee County. These tips were checked out by law enforcement officials.
