Culberson – An Andrews man is facing 11 charges, many felonies, after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase along the four-lane highway from the Walmart Supercenter area along U.S. 64 onto N.C. 60 before ending abruptly.
Frank Freeman Childers, 32, was being held in lieu of $135,000 secured bond for vehicle theft and fleeing/eluding arrest with a motor vehicle. He faces nine other charges, including two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a government employee, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, fail to heed light and siren, speeding, reckless driving to endanger, two counts of failure to stop for a steady red light and driving the wrong way on a dual-lane highway.
He was arrested by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office after allegedly stealing a vehicle and leading law enforcement on a chase reaching up to 100 mph. Numerous law enforcement officials were involved in the chase.
The chase lasted just a few minutes, starting about 6 p.m. Monday. Childers was booked into the Cherokee County Detention Facility in Murphy about 7 p.m.
