Grape Creek – The Grape Creek Community Development Club hosted an “Old-fashioned Community Get-together” at the Grape Creek Volunteer Fire Department from 4-6 p.m. Saturday.
This event was meant to help bring together the members of Grape Creek and surrounding communities to have a moment of fellowship with their friends, neighbors and volunteer fire department members. People were encouraged to invite others and bring friends because it’s not about where your address is, but rather it’s about making connections with neighbors far and wide.
They grilled hot dogs together for those in attendance, along with chips and drinks. Club members brought baked goods, like cakes and chocolate cupcakes, for everyone to enjoy after their meal.
“The event was a chance to see old friends, make new ones and celebrate small-town spirit,” organizers said.
Kids were allowed to look at the equipment firefighters wear on a mannequin and had the chance to sit inside the fire truck, thanks to the volunteer firefighters on hand.
Cherokee County Sheriff Dustin Smith and deputies were available to answer questions and joined in the fellowship of the event.
“We want to help our community be informed about what’s happening around us and find ways that we can engage and help,” one club member said.
The Grape Creek Community Development Club is focused on discussing local and neighborhood projects and improvements. This is a space for community members to join together and stay informed about how they can work together to support the community, working closely with the Grape Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
Organizers encourage members of the community to join the fire department, which is a vital resource to Grape Creek. Applications are available at 7 p.m. Thursdays at 5575 Joe Brown Highway. Inquiries can also be made via email to grapecreekvfd1600@gmail.com or online via grapecreekfire.org.
