Murphy – Sept. 21 brought out bikers, cops, canine and anyone else wanting to help support a good cause.
For the third year in a row Chris Poston “Sig” of the Nam Knights of America Motorcycle Club, Appalachian Chapter partnered with Buck Bald Brewing downtown to facilitate a fundraiser that helps support law enforcement officers with their canine partners.
The event offered live music by Soundcheck, which played southern rock and Americana music, a silent auction, fun, food, beer and camaraderie among like-minded folks.
The fundraiser benefited the Georgia Police K9 Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that assists active and retired police K9 throughout Georgia. The organization helps with ballistic vests, veterinarian services, equipment and a host of other needs as some smaller departments don’t have the budget and the cost of maintaining the K9 falls back on the officers themselves.
Kyle Briley was grateful to accept 100% of the proceeds from the annual fundraiser on behalf of the foundation. Nam Knights also gave the organization three vests for the K9. Briley presented “Sig” and Nam Knights with a plaque of appreciation for all the motorcycle club does to help others, including K9 officers.
The atmosphere was highly energetic and the weather good for those arriving to the event by way of motorcycles. The bikes were lined up in a row and had many of admirers.
Matt Wright of Buck Bald Brewing said of joining forces with Nam Knights to bring the fundraiser to downtown, “They do a lot of great stuff for the community, so we love to partner with them whenever we get a chance. All the guys are amazing.”
A special drink served up by Buck Bald Brewing was a favorite among event-goers. The Peanut Butter Paws Stout is made only once a year, just for the fundraiser. There were no shortage of folks enjoying the specialty drink, which is a beer that actually tastes like peanut butter.
“We came up here and met Matt in 2018 and started patronizing his establishment and we’ve been back here ever since. It’s just like a family,” said Ann Chambers of Mineral Bluff, Ga. “Oh my gosh, this fundraiser, my husband is a military veteran and we’re dog lovers, so we’re always here to support the K9 organization and vets.”
Next year’s event is already in the planning stages, to be held at Buck Bald Brewing’s soon to be new location.
