Andrews – While the first Food Truck Friday scheduled for May 10 was a washout, the May 24 event went off without a hitch to everyone’s delight to kick off the Memorial Day weekend.
Music was provided by Bill Vespasian, and the event drew hundreds of locals and tourists. There were plenty of food trucks offering everything from barbecue to tacos and chili dogs to kettle corn, along with vendors with such varying wares as raffles for a rifle to jams and jellies. There was also a dedicated Kids Corner with activities and games, along with the addition of the Doggie Station to cater to pets in public with water bowls and waste bags.
Andrews Chamber of Commerce Director Nola Cooper said the weather thankfully worked with the town this weekend to provide fun for everyone looking for a great start to the holiday weekend.
Cooper added that the canceled May 10 Food Truck Friday has been rescheduled for Aug. 9.
“We decided this year to not hold the event during the hottest portion of summer, but after contacting the vendors and musicians, everyone decided to pick up that second Friday in August to give everyone who wanted to participate a chance to come back,” she said.
In its fourth year, the event draws crowds every second and fourth Fridays from 5-8 p.m. to the Hall Memorial Park gazebo downtown, with First Street being closed to allow room to roam along with a variety of music and beverage, craft and food vendors. Each event is sponsored by a different local business as well. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair and hearty appetite.
