Andrews – The Andrews Chamber of Commerce’s annual Food Truck Fridays ended its season on Friday night.
While the date was rescheduled from the beginning of May due to a rainout, this last event had crowds wanting more since no one can believe summer’s coming to a close. Chamber Director Nola Cooper said although total numbers aren’t in yet, preliminarily this year’s crowds were even larger, with planning for next year already in the early stages.
The twice-monthly event also provides local musicians an outdoors venue at the Hall Memorial Park gazebo, along with opportunities for artists, vendors and, of course, food trucks to ply their wares along a closed First Street from May through July. Local organizations are also encouraged to attend to raise money and spread awareness about their efforts for the community.
“We anticipate growing more each year and adding more activities like our dedicated Kids Zone and our new Doggie Station this year,” Cooper said.
She added that thisyear, they were able to dedicate a power pole to food trucks, allowing each vendor to be independent of generators on site. That helped eliminate noise pollution for both vendors and attendees.
In its fourth year, the event draws crowds from 5-8 p.m. every second and fourth Fridays downtown. First Street is closed to allow room to roam. Each event is sponsored by a different local businesses.
