Murphy – The excitement and energy after a dormant craft season could be seen and felt upon arriving at the L&N Depot on Saturday morning.
Regular as well as new vendors were happy to be setting up their tents, tables and displays in anticipation of new opportunities and a fresh season at 4 Railroad St.
The Murphy Farmers Market has been active for more then a decade. It’s under the direction of manager Ashley Scanlon today.
“For our first day, it wasn’t bad,” she said. “It’s a beautiful day, beautiful weather and we have 22 vendors.”
Crafters are not the only contributors to the market as farmers are returning as well. Locally grown fruits, veggies, honey, flowers and plants will be staples from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday through October.
The Cherokee Clay Food Alliance was also present, helping farmers with their produce as well as providing information to the public. The alliance works to improve access to locally grown foods.
The open-air Murphy Farmers Market is a great meeting place for folks to catch up, while checking out the latest in what vendors are selling. Whether you’re looking for treasures for yourself, gifts for others or picking up items on your grocery list, the market is a popular weekend destination.
