Brasstown – An elderly resident’s motorized wheelchair strayed from Wilson Road on Friday and tumbled into Stamey Branch, pinning him beneath it in the shallow waters of the cold creek.
The elderly man, who was riding alone, was found by his wife after she grew concerned about him. She and others at the scene were unable to free him.
The first first-responder who arrived pulled him free, and CPR was administered until an ambulance arrived. He was taken to Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital in Peachtree, where he later passed away.
Volunteers from the Martins Creek Fire Department were among the first responders.
