Andrews – It’s finally here.
Block out 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, as the Cherokee County Fair is coming to town. The fair committee decided to show off this year. For many months, a team of dedicated citizens and officials have been planning and organizing the first county fair in several years.
It looks like they were out to win a blue ribbon for finest fair in the land. It’s not just the enticing food trucks, fair fare or the 13 bands performing on Andrews Opry Stage, including Friday night headliners Betty & Friends, Arnold Hill and Thomas Fountain, plus Saturday night main stage performers like Trae Carlton and the Jon Cox Band.
The fair will also display artisans’ crafts, and dozens of vendors for those organized folks who are already Christmas shopping. The fair will feature demonstrations, including glass blowers from Helio Glass. Along with the dancing and imbibing, there’s plenty to do for the children as well, which is why students from Cherokee County Schools will be there Friday.
Kids can ride the rides, join in on the games or make friends at the petting zoo, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday only. Those ages 5 and under get in for free.
There will be contests running throughout the course of the two-day event. The committee is keeping the nature of these contests hush, hush so listen for announcements at the fairgrounds.
Senior citizens will pay $5, while general admission tickets are $10. Family packs are available. So come join your neighbors to experience the old-fashioned fun of a county fair.
The fair will go out with bang of fireworks at 10 p.m. Saturday at Andrews Recreation Park, 160 Park St.
