Andrews – If numbers are an indicator of how well an event is going, then the 10th annual Christmas on Main festival was a huge success on Nov. 18.
“We had about 8,000 people” attend, said Nola Cooper, executive director of the Andrews Chamber of Commerce.
Foot traffic remained steady throughout the entire event. With more than 200 vendors, there was more than enough to keep folks busy as they moved up and down Main Street. downtown
Bands entertained festival-goers as food trucks prepared meals, so folks had plenty to eat as they wandered about. New and returning craft vendors displayed all types of wares to kick-off the Christmas shopping season.
The threat of ill weather diminished in time for the event, leaving only several gusts of wind. Some vendors scurried about to catch items during the gusts, and a few vendors had to pick up objects that made it to the ground during the windy moments.
Children could be heard laughing and playing during the family friendly festival. One child did wander off parentless for a time; however, a member of the chamber held the child until he was reunited with family.
Victorian Carolers and the time-invested decorations that adorned Main Street created an old-time Christmas feel. Screams could be heard as Santa and Mrs. Claus made their appearance, and children created their own gust of wind as they ran toward the iconic figure dressed in red and white.
With a petting zoo and miniature horses, an amazing puppy hay sculpture, mini car show, selfie photo booth and treats galore, there was something for everyone at the 10th annual event.
The beautifully decorated Christmas tree served as a background for photographic memories, and its lights shone bright in to the evening at the close of the festival, as if to indicate the success of this year’s Christmas on Main.
