Murphy – Under a window of clear sky Friday evening, the 91 proud graduates of Murphy High School’s Class of 2025 crossed the stage to the cheers of family, friends and faculty, marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
The ceremony, held at Bob Hendrix Memorial Stadium, was a moving tribute to perseverance, growth and community spirit.
The Murphy High School Band played “Pomp and Circumstance” as graduates processed onto the field. The stands were filled with smiling parents and teary-eyed grandparents waving homemade signs and cheering on their seniors.
Senior Adam Cook led the prayer over the ceremonies, quoting from Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you.”
Principal Wendy Leatherwood welcomed the crowd, thanking staff, families and students for their support throughout the year. She emphasized the unique strength and spirit of this year’s class.
“As you move forward, remember that success isn’t measured by awards or titles, but by the kindness you show, the integrity you hold and the way you treat others,” Leatherwood said.
“Being respectful, responsible and resourceful – these are not just words we’ve taught you, but values we live. Stand strong in your beliefs, lead with your heart and never compromise your values for the sake of convenience or approval.”
Career and technical education honor graduate Anna Brinke led the graduates in a prayer, thanking God for guiding them through school and continuing to guide them as they pursue their dreams with integrity and passion.
Summa Cum Laude graduates Ellie Dockery and Brinke both delivered messages about lasting memories of their class at Murphy High.
“We have grown, we have changed, and we have succeeded together,” Dockery said.
“So here we are now, everything is about to change, we face tomorrow as we say goodbye to yesterday. The page is turning for everyone. Tonight marks the official turning of the page and we can write our own stories.”
“We’ve worked hard, grown, failed, succeeded and made memories that will last forever,” Brinke added. “But as much as we’ve accomplished, we’re just getting started. At 18 years old, we’ve only lived about 23% of our lives; what truly matters now is how we spend the other 77% of it.”
Musical performances by the school chorus included senior Kirra Tallent adding to the emotional tone of the evening as they sang the “Alma Mater.”
Senior class President Elizabeth Cowen and Leatherwood led students into the anticipated moment of the night. Graduates turned their tassels and were welcomed to their new elite alumni club. Many graduates tossed their caps into the air, while others embraced family members, teachers and one another in emotional hugs.
The Murphy High Class of 2025 moves forward, leaving behind lockers and lunch lines for campuses, careers and adventures ahead. One thing is certain: their story, and their roots, begin right here at home.
