Joshua Dustin Carnes
Brasstown – A local man was charged in connection to a nonfatal stabbing on the evening of Nov. 19 at a residence in Warne.
Joshua Dustin Carnes, 47, is being held without bond after he allegedly stabbed Ricky Reeder, 33, of Hayesville, in two areas of his body, according to a release from Clay County Sheriff Mark Buchanan.
Clay County Sheriff's Lt. Tyler Faggard and emergency workers responded to the scene on Old Highway 64 West. Faggard said he found Carnes standing at the bottom of the driveway in his boxer shorts beside a knife on the ground.
Faggard asked who was stabbed and Carnes responded that it was him. However, the officer could not find injuries on Carnes’ body.
When Faggard looked up the driveway toward the house, he saw an injured Reeder on the porch.
After checking closer, Faggard immediately observed that Reeder was bleeding from his left shoulder area, according to the release.
Clay County Fire & Rescue Chief Brian Anderson controlled the bleeding until Emergency Medical Services was able to transport Reed to Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital in Peachtree.
“It was later learned that Reeder was also stabbed in the leg,” Faggard said in the release. Reeder is expected to make a full recovery.
According to Carnes’ warrant, the defendant assaulted Reeder with a Maxam Skinner Knife.
Carnes was arrested on scene and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill causing serious bodily injury. He is held without bond at the Clay County Detention Center in Hayesville.
