Firefighters from across Cherokee County will be holding boot drives Saturday to help Alan Andrews, chief of the Grape Creek Volunteer Fire Department, during difficult medical times.
Andrews has a hearty laugh, cares for his community and is dedicated to helping others. He’s also a talented bagpiper and
played “Amazing Grace” on 9/11.
Andrews was born in London. His early jobs included work as a school bus driver as well as janitorial duties.
He joined the Grape Creek Volunteer Fire Department in 2018. After firefighting school, he went on to complete emergency medical training, going from basic level to advanced medic.
A short time later, he was promoted to lieutenant. In January 2024, Andrews stepped into the role of chief after a vote from the members; he was not only capable, but well received.
However, Andrews has become too ill to work, so members of different fire departments around the county will be collecting money in boots to assist with his expenses.
If you see fire personnel holding a boot Saturday, drive cautiously and please help by donating any amount. All donations will be greatly appreciated.
