Andrews – For the 25th consecutive year, Appalachian Angels is holding its annual coat drive for foster children in Cherokee County, according to group treasurer group Ann Mansbridge and Andrews Chamber of Commerce Director Nola Cooper.
The Coat Tree is at the chamber office, 955 Main St. downtown.
The 501(c)(3) nonprofit holds the drive each year in cooperation with the Cherokee County Department Social Services to provide new and gently used coats for youth of all ages within the foster care system, according to group President Barbara El-Khouri. Cards are hung on the Appalachian Angels tree at the chamber office and available for pick up and drop off, with a deadline of Monday, Nov. 11, for new items.
This year, Cherokee County DSS offered that there were 63 new coats needed for youth in the foster system, with a variety of ages and subsequent sizes represented. Gently used coats can be dropped off at the Cherokee County Food Bank at West End Plaza.
The group will accept sizes ranging from newborn to 14/16 for youth. Appalachian Angels is also glad to take any gently used or worn newborn or toddler items, including playpens.
Cards can be obtained from the chamber office from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, with new items dropped off until Nov. 11.
