Andrews – A new town hall should be ready for occupancy by early October, according to Mayor James Reid.
Reid said construction workers are putting the final remodeling touches on the town’s new facility at 188 Main St. The building was previously the longtime home of Ralph L. Crisp Realty Co.
“We’re still on the remodeling side of that, trying to get the conference room and everything squared away,” Reid said. “Construction is about 90 percent done now. We should be good to go by the first of October.”
Andrews’ longtime town hall is at 1101 Main St. downtown. Reid said that space will receive needed renovations of its own.
“We really need to vacate that building for a little bit so we can handle mold issues, and other structural issues that it has,” Reid said.
The mayor added that he has reached out to state Sen. Kevin Corbin (R-Franklin), who represents Cherokee County as part of the 50th District, for financial assistance.
“He’s freeing us probably $40,000 to help remodel that building,” Reid said. “That will give us a good jump-start on that work.”
The plan is for the facility to be turned over to the Andrews Police Department once renovations are complete.
“Their whole operation will run out of there,” Reid said.
“We hope to have somebody downstairs there to answer phones and questions. A lot of times people are looking for officers, and we’ll page an officer in off of a route, so we’ll still have that available.”
