Ranger – Emergency calls were dispatched to several fire departments when a single-story residential home at Quartermile Road and U.S. 64 had smoke billowing from the roof.
It didn’t appear that flames were visible from outside the home around 7 p.m. June 25. The Bellview, Culberson, Martins Creek, Murphy and Ranger volunteer fire departments responded, bringing with them about 15,000 gallons of water in case it was needed. Cherokee County Emergency Medical Services was also at the scene.
“It was an amazing response,” Mandy Taylor with the Ranger Fire Department told the Cherokee Scout.
No injuries were reported. A small black dog was spotted running around the property and sitting along the busy road. At one point, the canine was redirected away from running into nearby traffic, which continued to flow without interruption.
Officials believe the fire was electrical and started in the kitchen. Renters of the home at the time of the incident declined to comment.
