Andrews – The ACT2 Players will present the comedy Southern Fried Funeral as a dinner theatre performance this weekend at the Valleytown Cultural Arts Center, 125 Chestnut St. downtown.
Sarah Reynolds, the first-time director but a veteran actress, said the cast “has been a dream to work with” of longtime associates in the theatre, and she “couldn’t ask for a better cast to pull off this play.”
“I found this play and immediately I loved it, and I could just see our group performing it. We’re like a big family here, and this play definitely reminds me of my own extended family get-togethers, which are usually for weddings and funerals, so I thought this would be the most fun for us to end the season,” Reynolds said.
When asked about the differences in going from stage to page, Reynolds admits each presents its own set of challenges. While being onstage may be more rewarding, this role allows for “a somewhat more fun outlet for creative flow because you get to see the characters and how they relate to each other rather than focusing on your sole role.”
Too, she added “They’ve all made the transition from performer to director both more enjoyable and so very, very smooth. I’ve got both long-time and first-timers performing and they’ve poured so much love and energy into this play we’re excited to share it with the community.”
“A big-hearted comedy about family – Southern-style” – the play follows the family Frye, who reunite after recently losing their patriarch.
Tickets are $30. Dinner will be a take on traditional Southern funeral fare, provided by Burger Boy of Murphy, with desserts provided by Homespun Hobbies of Andrews.
Doors open 30 minutes prior to showtime.
