Murphy – A Tennessee man faces felony charges after a road rage incident in which four gunshot rounds were fired at a motorist late Christmas morning.
William Christopher Davis, 33, of Cleveland, Tenn., was being held in the Cherokee County Detention Center in lieu of $150,000 secured bond on three charges – assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflicting serious injury, discharging a weapon at an occupied dwelling or moving vehicle and discharging a firearm in the city, according to jail records.

The vehicles were traveling north on U.S. 64 opposite of Peachtree Street south of downtown. Murphy Police Chief Tim Lominac said the incident occurred when Davis felt he had been cut off by the other motorist, an unidentified Cherokee County woman.
As the two vehicles converged at the intersection, Davis allegedly fired four rounds at the woman’s vehicle, including one round that penetrated her coat, although the woman was unhurt, Lominac said.
“He turned left onto Highway 64, pulled over at Dunkin Donuts/Shell station,” Lominac said. “He then called dispatch and turned himself in.”
Officer Caleb Allen responded and made the arrest, while Detective Jason Murphy conducted the investigation.
“It was a fortunate incident that no one was severely injured,” Lominac said.
The most serious charge – assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflicting serious injury – is a Class C felony that can result in a prison sentence of 44-182 months if he is convicted.
