Lincolnton – A Murphy man and the woman he was with were arrested late Thursday night in Lincoln County on charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
Colby Lane Powers, 26, of Murphy, and Casey Nicole Murphy, 30, of Lincolnton, were arrested by Lincoln County sheriff’s deputies when they responded to call about an assault around 11:45 p.m. Thursday.
When deputies arrived, they found one man in the yard bleeding from his injuries and two people running from the scene into a wooded area, according to a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office press release.
The suspects were
identified as Powers and Murphy. The couple had been to the residence to visit when they became combative toward each other, the release says. They were told to leave the home, but the argument continued in the yard.
The victim, in an attempt to break up the fight, came out of the residence and confronted Powers. Both suspects then began fighting with the victim, striking him on the body and head with a two-by-four and a masonry brick, the release says.
The victim was taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia for
treatment of his injuries.
Murphy was also arrested on charges of injury to real property, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of a schedule VI controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
