Hiawassee, Ga. – The 70th annual Georgia Mountain Fair – which was scheduled from Friday, Aug. 14, through Saturday, Aug. 22 – has been canceled. The fair usually draws 33,000 people for the nine-day event.
“We felt it was the right thing to do,” general manager Hilda Thomason said, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, a couple parts of the fair were rescheduled to be part the annual Georgia Mountain Fall Festival from Friday, Oct. 9, through Saturday, Oct. 17. All craft vendors planned for the fair will be at the festival.
The fair parade was rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10. Thomason said organizers are working to get all talent scheduled for the 2020 fair to perform at the 2021 fair from Aug. 13-21.
Other events scheduled for the fairgrounds – like the Georgia Mountain Moonshine Cruz-in from Thursday, July 30, through Saturday, Aug. 1, as well as the July 31 concert with T. Graham Brown – have not been canceled.
