Andrews – Food Truck Friday is coming to downtown on the second Friday night of every month this summer.
Event coordinator Nola Cooper, a member of the Andrews Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, is hoping this one-of-a-kind event will be a good weekend starter for both locals and visitors. She launched a similar event in Mooresville and wanted to bring the event to Andrews because the town’s layout would be ideal.
Food trucks will sign up each month through September for the event. Cooper said she has spread the word to more than 25 vendors from Asheville to Blue Ridge, Ga.
Three food trucks have already signed up for the inaugural event. The Ark will serve Caribbean cuisine, the Andrews Lions Club will serve hot dog and hamburgers with all of the fixings, and Granieri’s Restaurant will serve Italian sausage with peppers and onions.
The event will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday on First Street, between Locust Street and the Andrews Post Office.
Venders with arts and crafts will also be set up on the street with the food trucks. The chamber of commerce will have folding picnic tables and chairs available for people to sit at.
Betty Vaughn and the Southern Rush Band will play in the gazebo at Hall Park from 5-8 p.m. Businesses on Main Street will also be open later so guests can browse during the event.
Parking will be on Main Street in Andrews. If anyone is interested in a vender space, they can sign up at visitandrews.com/food-truck-fridays.
For the first year, Cooper said vendors will be able to sign up for all five Fridays for the price of four. Food trucks are $25 to sign up and will receive a refund after cleanup.
“My hope is this will become an annual event, and it will be something for people to kick off their weekend with music, food and a chance to be around friends,” Cooper said.
