Murphy – The Cherokee Scout is accepting submissions for local artwork that could be featured on the cover of the 2021-22 Celebrate Cherokee County magazine, the annual information guide for local residents and businesses.
In addition to seeing your artwork everywhere for the next year, the winner will also receive a check for $100.
The glossy, full-color magazine will be included in the May 26 edition of the Scout. It will be distributed through the local newspaper as well as in local businesses, chambers of commerce, welcome centers, hotels and other locations around the county for the next year.
Here is the criteria for entering the cover contest:
- Each artist must live at least part time in Cherokee County, and the artwork must be about something in Cherokee County.
- Each artist may submit up to three pieces of artwork to be considered, which could be a color drawing, painting or photograph.
- Each piece of art should be vertical to proportionally fit on the cover of an 8½-by-11-inch magazine.
- Each piece of art should leave room at the top for the magazine logo to be placed.
- Each photo must be in high-resolution at a minimum of 300 DPI and not include a commercial entity.
- Each entry should include the artist’s name. Photos should include when and where the image was taken, as well as the names of any people in the photo, if possible.
- The deadline for each submission is 5 p.m. Friday, April 30.
- Artwork may be submitted via email to photos@cherokeescout.com, brought to the newspaper office at 89 Sycamore St. downtown or mailed to P.O. Box 190, Murphy NC 28906.
- The Scout has the right to publish each submission in Celebrate Cherokee County magazine and other uses. However, the artist continues to own the rights to their work.
