Ranger – A woman involved in a domestic dispute that led to gunfire earlier this year has been charged with a felony offense.

Donna Slojkowski Stevens, 63, of Marble, is accused of firing numerous gunshots at her intimate partner on the morning of Sept. 10.

Stevens, who owns the Cannon Club on U.S. 64 West, refused to exit the building for about two hours following the gunshots, leading police to redirect traffic around a stretch of the four-lane highway while they convinced her to surrender. Authorities later determined that Stevens was in a state of confusion due to a head wound and was not thinking clearly when she barricaded herself inside the property.

Stevens was flown to a hospital in Tennessee to treat the head wound. Police allowed her to recover before arresting her on Nov. 19.

“It’s in the district attorney’s hands; we’re waiting to see where they want to go with the case,” Cherokee County sheriff’s Lt. Tiffany Holland said.

Stevens is charged with discharging a firearm to incite fear, which is a felony offense. She is also charged with misdemeanor resisting a public officer for allegedly locking herself in the building and refusing to exit when authorities instructed her to do so.

Police are still working to determine what led Stevens to fire a weapon inside the property. Officials believe she suffered the head wound during a struggle that happened after the initial shots were fired.

The man involved in the dispute was taken to a hospital for treatment of chest pain and minor injuries. No one was struck by gunfire.
