Murphy – A local military veteran died last week following a two-vehicle accident.

Harold Edward Curry, 82, of Murphy, was pronounced dead at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn., the day following the crash. Authorities say he turned his vehicle onto U.S. 64 West from State Road 1304 and collided with another vehicle around 2 p.m. Jan. 26.

“He pulled out into the path of an oncoming vehicle,” N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Murico Stephens said.

Officials say a 79-year-old woman in Curry’s vehicle suffered serious injuries, while the driver of the second vehicle sustained non-life-threatening wounds. No charges will be filed against the second driver.

Born in Ronco, Pa., Curry had lived in Cherokee County for the last 15 years. He was a U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force veteran, according to his obituary.
