Peachtree – Six new study programs are set to be offered in the years to come at Tri-County Community College.
The college Board of Trustees put its stamp of approval on the programs Thursday. President Donna Tipton-Rogers said enrollment at the college is up across the board, and these new programs will eventually give even more local residents the ability to obtain good-paying jobs.
The newest program revealed will be for light-duty diesel truck mechanics thanks to a nearly $1 million grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission. The college will renovate two buildings to make room for the program, which is especially vital since truck mechanics are in short supply today, according to Bo Gray, vice president for college and community initiatives.
If everything works out, light-duty diesel truck mechanic classes could begin as early as spring 2021, Gray added. If the program proves popular, it could be expanded in the future to included larger trucks.
Here are the other programs approved by the board. The N.C. Community College System ultimately will decide when they are able to be offered.
