Marble – A local man has been charged with 14 counts of larceny following a residential heist, during which more than $30,000 worth of goods were stolen.

Timothy Jeffery McCoy, 40, is accused of burglarizing a home on Trull Road while the homeowner was in the hospital.

The victim told police he returned home from the hospital on Oct. 7, after being away several days, and saw McCoy riding his stolen bicycle past his property. Between the time the victim called authorities and the time police arrived, McCoy wrecked the bicycle and suffered a head injury.

Officials say McCoy was near the victim’s neighbor’s house with the stolen bike when they arrived to investigate around 5 p.m. Oct. 7. McCoy was taken to a hospital in Tennessee to treat the head injury he suffered during the bike accident. He was released from the hospital about five days later, when police arrested him in the burglary.

Officials accuse McCoy of stealing a canoe, a bicycle, lawn equipment, a PlayStation gaming system, a television, a banjo, more than 10 guitars, a crossbow, a moped, 11 firearms and other items during the heist. Police are still working to recover many of the items.

In addition to the 14 felony larceny offenses, McCoy is charged with felony breaking and entering. He was released from jail after posting 10 percent of a $25,000 secured bond.

McCoy is also accused of stealing a Jeep Wrangler from a car dealership in Marble. The theft was reported on Oct. 6, and police apprehended McCoy after a brief foot chase later that day. McCoy was out on bond for the motor vehicle theft at the time of the residential heist on Trull Road.
