Green leaves as Andrews town adminstrator – again

Body

Andrews – A new era begins, again.
Bill Green, who has served as town administrator on three different occasions since 2002, resigned from the position on Sept. 4.
“This is the third time that the town has decided they wanted to go in a different direction,” Green told the Cherokee Scout after resigning. “I don’t know where Andrews is going to get the money to pay someone [with experience].”
As is often the case in small towns, Green wore several hats. In addition to town administrator, Green served as the town’s financial director and oversaw certain projects related to construction and development. He also served as administrative police chief while the town searched for someone to permanently fill that position.
He did all of that, and more, for a cut-rate annual salary of $29,000, which is near the maximum amount a retired person can earn. By comparison, Murphy pays its town manager more than $70,000 per year.
“We’re going to advertise the job opening,” Mayor James Reid told the Scout when asked if the town already had a replacement for Green. “We’re actively looking at a couple of people that we couldn’t afford in the past but now can.”
While town officials declined to comment on personnel issues, it appears that Green’s resignation was on the horizon for some time. Lawmakers initially hired Green on a temporary basis to help improve the town’s financial standing.
Green first served as town administrator from 2002-05. He was let go for a short time, but he returned later that year and served from 2005-13. Green returned for his latest stint in March 2018, filling in for Ed Burchins, who departed after dealing with personal issues.
