Brasstown – Local artist Rob Withrow caught the attention of North Carolina First Lady Kristin Cooper. Now he’s gifting her the piece that introduced her to him.
For Cooper’s At Home with FLONC series, Withrow sent her a three-minute video talking about his love of making and teaching Southern folk pottery with humorous faces. In the video, local photographer Nathan Baerreis filmed Withrow making one of his popular face jugs.
Cooper shared the video on social media on Aug. 13.
“I’m honored, very honored,” Withrow said.
He thinks Baerreis’ filming and editing skills sold Cooper on featuring him. Withrow thinks it’s wonderful that Cooper is featuring
a variety of artists across the state as part of the project.
“Artists are really having a hard time right now,” Withrow said. “It’s just a wonderful thing.”
He is working with one of Cooper’s assistants to make arrangements to get the moonshine jug he made in the video to her. Withdraw, who has been making face jugs for 25 years, owns Smoke in the Mountains Pottery.
