Andrews – Dr. Lisa Fletcher has been named the 2020 Principal of the Year for Cherokee County Schools.
Superintendent Jeana Conley made the announcement during the July board of education meeting. Fletcher, principal of Andrews High School, was also honored as Principal of the Year in 2018.
“It’s very humbling to receive
the Principal of the Year one time,” Fletcher said. “To receive the honor a second time truly grounds me, and makes me stop in this pandemic madness to remember that I am only as good as those I’m surrounded by.”
She became an administrator in the district in January 2008, when she was named assistant principal at Murphy High School. She has been at Andrews High since 2015. She also serves as the high school curriculum director.
Conley said Fletcher is a phenomenal educator.
“She is a solid professional with a gift of engineering the curriculum to meet the needs of her students,” Conley said. “She puts students first and has engaged the entire community to support the school.”
Fletcher said what she loves most about being a principal is “shaping that solid foundation” that will stay with students for the rest of their lives.
Fletcher took the long way in her educational pursuits, which she said helps her identify with her students. She earned a degree in business administration from Montreat-Anderson College in 1997, after earning associate’s degrees in business administration and accounting from Southwestern Community College in 1995.
She earned a master’s degree in education from Western Carolina University in 2001, then added a Lateral Entry Licensure from the Distance Education Program at East Carolina University in 2003. Fletcher’s doctorate in education is from Western in 2016.
The Principal of the Year award is sponsored by the Murphy Rotary Club. Fletcher will receive a gift from the club as well as an honorary membership.
