Andrews to replace sewer lines in mobile home parks

Andrews – The town is one of 19 communities around the state to receive grant funding for infrastructure improvements.
Andrews received more than $1.8 million from the Community Development Block Grant program to replace dilapidated sewer lines throughout three existing mobile home parks. Officials say sewer lines in Higdon Mobile Home, Dick Higdon Mobile Home and Sherrill Mobile Home properties continually experience clogs and leaks, resulting in septic backups in the yard outside the homes.
Town officials applied for funding to fix the problems three times before finally receiving the money.
The grant funds will be used to replace about 3,600 linear feet of sewer line throughout the three mobile home parks.
For this round of CDBG funding, the state is paying $26,664,566 to 19 different communities for infrastructure improvements. Studies show North Carolina still needs $17-26 billion worth of water and sewer infrastructure upgrades statewide.
“Some water and sewer systems are over 100 years old, and these funds will help communities meet their infrastructure challenges,” Gov. Roy Cooper said in a release.
