Andrews – A local woman is accused of attacking a man with a hammer and stealing his vehicle before getting it stuck in a cow pasture during a police chase.
Monique Elizabeth Adams, 31, allegedly burglarized the man’s mobile home on Fairview Mobile Home Park Circle, then hit him in the head with a hammer while stealing his Chevrolet Silverado.
Authorities were dispatched to the home around 8:30 p.m. March 22 and issued an alert for the stolen vehicle. A deputy later noticed the truck at Walmart in Murphy and approached the vehicle to arrest the occupant.
Officials say Adams immediately sped away with the stolen truck and led police on a chase into Andrews.
“There’s some twist and turns in the middle, and finally she just jumps a little hump and goes out into the field,” Cherokee County sheriff’s Lt. Tiffany Holland said.
“They said it was a Dukes of Hazzard move.”
Officials say Adams admitted to being high on drugs, but claimed someone else forced her to use methamphetamine. She also claimed someone sexually assaulted her, which police are still investigating.
During the chase Adams allegedly drove directly toward a Cherokee Tribal police officer and almost collided with his car. Court documents say she also swerved toward a sheriff’s deputy and almost collided with his vehicle. No injuries were reported from the chase.
