Body

Patricia McDonald Jordan, 85, went to her heavenly home Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023, where she met Jesus, and was reunited with Paul, her beloved husband of more than 60 years.
Pat was born in Lincoln, Neb., to Wesley Patrick McDonald and Mary Katherine Throop McDonald on May 23, 1937.
In her younger years, Pat was awarded a four-year scholarship for acting to the University of Missouri.
She soon decided that college was not for her and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1957. She was serving as an Aviation Supply Clerk when she met the love of her life, Paul. They were married in Whiting Field, Fla., on Sept. 27, 1958. With both of them serving in active duty, it became difficult to have any time together, so they set out to start a family. In August 1959, they welcomed their first daughter Becky, followed by a son, Dan, a daughter, Lori and then 10 years later, another daughter, Chrissy.
Upon Paul’s retirement in 1972, they moved to Brasstown, N.C., to start a new journey. Pat being a cradle Episcopalian, immediately began searching for a church. She joined Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Hayesville, where she started a Sunday School for children. Knowing she must serve God first, Pat dedicated her heart to the ministries at Good Shepherd. Her most cherished ministry was the altar guild, which she loved so dearly, and served until she was no longer able.
Pat’s love for children led her further to begin substitute teaching, which later landed her career in education as a teacher in the Clay County School System, where she retired. She was instrumental in implementing the first satellite education program teaching students in Latin and French languages.
Pat loved everyone, which was evidenced by her extensive involvement in church, school and her community. She and Paul worked together on projects such as the CROP Walk, Relay for Life, the Lenten Pancake Supper to provide School Bags for Kids, the Parade of Tables and the annual Good Shepherd Country Fare.
She also served as Chairman of the Democratic Women’s Committee and dedicated countless hours both serving on the board and working the polls for the elections. She led many Al-Anon support groups and committed endless hours to helping others in need.
Pat also believed in living a healthy lifestyle by exercising. Over the years, Pat began many step aerobics and Pilates classes which she taught until the age of 84. Pat’s generous heart and giving spirit left love in hearts of many.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her parents, Wesley Patrick and Mary Katherine; brother, Dan; and sister, Kitty.
She is survived by her children, Becky (Craig), Dan (Michele), Lori (Brad) and Chrissy (Doug); eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Michael McDonald.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 495 Herbert Hills Drive, Hayesville, with graveside military honors. A reception will follow the service.
