Cherokee County has 193 active confirmed COVID-19 cases. Since March, the county has had 1,728 total cases, including 19 non-residents who tested positive while in the county.
Here's the latest updates from the Cherokee County Health Department:
- Tuesday, Jan. 12 - The health department reported 11 new cases. Two residents were contacts of previously-reported cases, and nine had no contact with anyone known to have the virus. All were experiencing symptoms, and one was hospitalized. In addition, 32 people previously reported as testing positive were determined to have recovered.
- Wednesday, Jan. 13 - The health department reported 28 new cases and two deaths. Of the new cases, 10 were contacts of previously-reported cases, and 18 had no contact with anyone known to have the virus. Twenty-five of the 28 were experiencing symptoms, and two were hospitalized. The individuals who passed away were in their early to mid 80s. They were the 24th and 25th residents to pass away after testing positive for COVID-19. In addition, 11 people previously reported as testing positive were determined to have recovered.
- Thursday, Jan. 14 - The health department reported 38 new cases. Fourteen were contacts of previously-reported cases, and 24 had no contact with anyone known to have the virus. Of the 38, 34 were experiencing symptoms, and two were hospitalized. In addition, 83 people previously reported as testing positive were determined to have recovered.
- Friday, Jan. 15 - The health department reported 20 new cases. Eight residents were contacts of previously-reported cases, and 12 had no contact with anyone known to have the virus. All 20 were experiencing symptoms. In addition, 52 people previously reported as testing positive were determined to have recovered.
Vaccination information
The Cherokee County Health Department is now scheduling COVID vaccination appointments for those in Group 2. According to the state Department of Health and Human Services, Group 2 includes anyone 65 years or older, regardless of health status or living situation.
