Louis Hargis, 84 of Murphy, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at his residence.

A native of Lockland, Ohio Louis joined the United States Air Force at a young age, while completing his high school education, and retired after 30 years of service.

He then worked as a U.S. Postal Service employee for 22 years.  After his retirement from the Postal Service, he moved to Murphy where he enjoyed gardening, building bird houses, and wood working.  Louis worked alongside his brother-in-law developing and building the Chestnut Oaks subdivision where he lived the remainder of his life.

He was the son of the late Clarence and Rosa Lee Dykes Hargis, and husband of the late Clara Hargis who died September 25, 2016. He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Jacob Hargis, three sisters, and one brother.

Surviving are two daughters, Sherry Hargis of Tampa, Fla. and Rebecca Hargis of Oldsmar, Fla; two sons, Michael Hargis of Tampa, Chad Hargis and wife, Daneen of Camden, SC; one brother, William Hargis and wife, Patricia of Corpus Christi, Texas; and four grandchildren, Colin Hargis, Josef Hargis, Marlee Hargis, and Taylor Hargis.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2023 at Suit Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Air Force.

Pallbearers will be Colin Hargis, Josef Hargis, Marlee Hargis, Taylor Hargis, and Russ Wrona.
