    Edward Carter, 68, of Murphy, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2022.
    He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County.  He was the son of Lura Carter of Murphy, and the late Hubert Carter.
    Edward was a beloved pastor and had worked at Baker Furniture. At age nine, he asked Christ to be his Savior and lived his life with the purpose of glorifying his Lord. He dearly loved his family, friends and church. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and raising cattle.
    Edward is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Gail Carter; son, Michael Carter and wife Davian of Murphy; daughter, Amanda Cornett and husband Phillip of Norwood; brother, Charles Carter of Murphy; six grandchildren, Jacob, Isaac, Alexsis, Will, Eliana, and Sara; and two great-grandchildren, Brantley and Olivia; and many nieces and nephews.
    A private family funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at Ebenezer Baptist Church. The Rev. Kenneth Dockery officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Jacob, Isaac, Kevin, and Brian Carter, Jordan Shook, and Wayne Dockery. Honorary pallbearers were all his nephews.
    Mr. Carter lay in state from noon-2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at Ebenezer Baptist Church until the service hour.
    A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at Ebenezer Baptist Church.
    The family respectively recommends that you wear a mask during visitation.
