    Buster Emory Laney, 95, of Murphy, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022.
    He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, N.C., and the son of the late Scott and Belle Bradshaw Laney.
    Buster was a U.S. World War II Army veteran. He served as a Medical Corps and Military Police.
    He worked for Kerns Bread as a mechanic for 37½ years. Buster was a master wood turner. He displayed his work at Dr. J. Mock’s, John C. Campbell Folk School and other festivals in the community. He was known to give away his work rather than selling it.
    He was a Chevrolet truck man and disliked Ford trucks.
    Buster was a member of New Martins Creek Baptist Church.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Willa Nell; one daughter, Wanda Conley; son-in-law, Charlie Conley; and four brothers and three sisters.
    He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Alene Farmer Laney; three sons, Mark Laney (Theresa), Danny and James Chastain; three daughters, Susie Stokes (Steve), Lesa Lamberson, Melissa Frame (Ben) and Donna Crisp (Larry); 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and two great-grandchildren on the way.
    Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at New Martins Creek Baptist Church. The Revs. Aud Brown and Chris Matheson will officiate. Rev. Mark Laney will conduct the graveside service. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Totherow, Austin Simons, Luke Laney, Trampas Crisp, Casey Conley, Josh Chastain, Eric Crisp and Jeff Wilson.
    The family will receive friends from noon-3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at New Martins Creek Baptist Church.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Maltby Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 945, Marble, NC 28905.
