If you were in a position of power in Cherokee County, what would you change?
This week's question: If you were in a position of power in Cherokee County, what would you change?
"I would stop all of the illegals from collecting money that they do not deserve and it happens in Cherokee County. I do not believe in illegal aliens being able to get welfare and get their own Social Security. That is taking money from our taxpayers, and that is not right. I've worked here for 33 years and paid my taxes every year."
Annette Green, Marble
"In the school systems, where they went away from books and they're on Chromebooks (or iPads) now, I would have students go back to writing with pencils and paper. They wonder why these kids are struggling in school and can't get anywhere. It's because they're not writing anything down. They're not even teaching them cursive anymore."
Kenny McGrady, Unaka
"Since we pay taxes to dump our trash, I feel like they should change the policy, that to dump anything at the landfill you should not have to pay because you already pay taxes to dump your trash anyway. That's what I would change."
Pam Johnson, Ranger
"What bothers me the most and I would change is all the poor homeless animals that get dumped. I live in a neighborhood where dogs are dumped all the time, and it breaks my heart. I would open up another shelter that was tax paid. We pay a bunch of taxes and don't see nothing. I'd use the money for the shelter not on other things, like the roundabout, which was a waste of money."
Jan Mitchell, Peachtree
"I'm the manager at the homeless shelter. We need two big things. Real public transportation like buses. Cherokee Transit is wonderful but there are gaps, they're limited in what they can do. We also need truly affordable housing. We have so many people, especially in the area that are on small fixed incomes and can't afford $1,300 or more per month on rent. Truly affordable housing would be amazing."
