    Shirley A. Griffith, 83, of Murphy, passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday, March 5, 2022.
    She was a lifelong resident of Cherokee County and the daughter of the late Enoch N. and Mae (Stiles) Allen.
    In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Griffith, to whom she was married for 47 years. Also preceding her in death were three sisters, Helen A. Taylor and Monteen A. Wilson of Candler, and Geraldine A. Sanders of Columbia, Tenn.
    Surviving are three sisters, Jane A. Barnett of Acworth, Ga., Eula A. (Wendell) Moore of Hayesville, and Linda A. White of Clyde. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
    She was a member of Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church, where she loved her church family and faithfully attended Sunday school and worship services as long as her health would allow her to attend.
    She was a member of the Murphy High School Class of 1957, where she was an all-star on the girls varsity basketball team her senior year. It was also in her senior year when Shirley broke her record by scoring 33 points in a basketball game against Hiwassee Dam High School.
    She was employed by industrial plants for 47 years, with the last 36 of those years being at Clifton Precision, where she retired in 2004.
    At Shirley’s request, a family graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, from Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. The Revs. Noah Crowe and Allen Scroggs officiated. Nephews served as pallbearers.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1650 N.C.141, Murphy, NC 28906 or Hospice Of North Carolina, 75 Medical Park Lane, Suite C, Murphy, NC 28906.
    Arrangements have been entrusted to the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy.
