Peachtree – Murphy Rehabilitation & Nursing kicked off the change of seasons with a Spring Fling and silent auction for the residents and staff members Friday afternoon.
Each month, they have a theme for a week they celebrate an event or holiday through a variety of different activities. In January, they celebrated Jack Frost, while February celebrated sweethearts. It was only fitting that March celebrated the joys of springtime.
It has been difficult for nurses and staff since the onset of COVID-19. Activities director Amy Jones and assistant Emily Fulford decided to do something special to show them how much they’re appreciated.
A secret silent auction was set up, with mock monetary gifts in place that allowed the nurses and staff to acquire extra “cash” throughout the day that could be used toward various auction items. The staff was unaware of these hidden perks. If a member wore a Murphy Rehab shirt to work, they received $1 toward their auction purchase.
Twenty-five local businesses as well as five churches offered everything from gift cards to local restaurants and shops to a variety of other gifts and goodies toward the auction items. Live music was performed by Jordan Witt, and there was no shortage of culinary treats as funnel cakes, ice cream and more were served.
Games included a cakewalk with 31 different cakes donated by various churches as well as some ladies from Murphy Rehab.
“I feel overwhelmed and blessed that we live in an area that’s so willing to give to our nursing home,” Fulford said with emotion. “It’s unbelievable how much our community has given just to boost the morale of our staff.”
The event served its intended purpose of honoring and showing appreciation to the staff as well as creating a fun week of entertainment for residents.
