Fugitive for child crimes
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the Wise County (Va.) Sheriff’s Office and Gilmer County (Ga.) Sheriff’s Office, arranged the arrest of wanted fugitive Eric Jason Watkins, 50 of Murphy.

Watkins, a part-time EMT with Cherokee County EMS, had outstanding indictments in Virginia for the following, according to a release:
- Object sexual penetration (felony);
- Aggravated sexual battery;
- Indecent liberties with a child.
Sheriff’s Office narcotics and patrol went to Watkins’ home and took him into custody without incident.

A Blood Assurance drive will be held from noon-4 p.m. today at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, 77 Regal St.
