Murphy – Parents have another option regarding preschool for their children.

A new Montessori-style preschool program will be available at Murphy First United Methodist Church, with open enrollment continuing through Feb. 18. Enrollment is only offered online; anyone who doesn’t have a computer is welcome to use one at church to apply for the program.

Classes will be held from 8:30-11:30 a.m. three days per week – Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays – beginning Monday, March 4.

This will be an opportunity for youngsters to master skills for kindergarten. The program will help youngsters make advancements in problem-solving, implement language in learning as well as learn collaborative social skills. The learning will not only be interactive, but fun for the child as well.

Tuition will be $250 per month, with the part-time program offering financial aid. Financial aid is not based solely on income, as other factors are considered as well.

Spots are limited, with only 18 being available on a first-come, first-served basis, after which children will be placed on a waiting list for the program.

Children must be ages 3-5 and potty trained. All children are welcome, regardless of faith.

“We have known for a while that our community needs more childcare and preschool opportunities so we are very excited to be able to offer this program and to do it in a way that’s both high quality and affordable, especially for families that might not be able to do something like this,” pastor Wil Posey said.

First United Methodist has partnered with the N.C. Rural Center to bring this dream to fruition.

“This preschool is an expression of our mission and our vision as a church. We think the preschool is part of the way we can help people experience what we believe is the abundant life that God imagines for us,” Posey said.
