Bryson City – An Andrews woman with warrants out for drug charges was found in the middle of the road last week.
Swain County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a vehicle blocking the roadway on U.S. 19 West on Sunday morning. Upon arrival, they made contact with the driver, later identified as Brandy Lee Yackeren, 39, of Andrews.

According to a release from the sheriff’s office, Yackeren initially provided a fictitious name in an attempt to conceal her identity. Deputies discovered that she had outstanding warrants out of Buncombe County for felony possession of Schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor larceny.
During the arrest, deputies found additional narcotics in the vehicle, including cocaine, fentanyl and oxycodone. Yackeren was subsequently charged with possession of cocaine, possession of fentanyl, misdemeanor possession of Schedule II controlled substance, driving while license revoked and providing fictitious information to a law enforcement officer
Yackeren was taken to the Swain County Detention Center, where she was booked and held on a $25,000 secured bond. Sheriff Brian Kirkland commended the deputies for their swift response and thorough investigation.
