Punkin Chunkin a fall spectacle

Robert Grand/Contributing Photographer The Hayesville Hurlers shoot pumpkins feet during the Punkin Chunkin machine competition Saturday. The team landed one pumpkin 3,309 feet into the field. The Hurlers ended up taking first place among six competitors at the annual event sponsored by the Clay County Chamber of Commerce.

Deby Jo Ferguson/Clay County Progress Always a crowd favorite, the pumpkin pie-eating contest always draws plenty of contestants. The winners of this contest were Mila Brookings and Sophia Jrieg, who tied for first place Saturday at the Punkin Chunkin festival. Each received a T-shirt marking their culinary appetite’s achievement.
